I was born and raised in Reno and am a sixth generation Nevadan. I went to Caughlin Ranch Elementary, Swope Middle School, and Reno High–and I couldn’t get out fast enough when I graduated. After almost ten years in California, I realized I couldn’t get back to Reno fast enough. I came back to our wonderful city and have never been happier.
I am not your typical lawyer. I have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Theater Arts from UC Davis and a cosmetology license from the Paul Mitchell School in Sacramento. My unique background gives me a multi-faceted personality that makes me a unique attorney who not only loves my work, but who can also relate to people.
I went to University of San Francisco School of Law and loved every second of it. When I came home, I worked for a large firm in Reno for almost seven years. In 2019, I made the decision to leave Maupin, Cox & LeGoy, and in 2020 I established LeGoy Law.
Living here in Reno, I cherish the wide open spaces, the outdoor experiences, the friendly demeanors of its residents, and–let’s be honest–the affordable real estate. I have a wonderful home I love with awesome family amenities, a fluffy gray tabby cat named Scarlett O’Hara, and a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy named Blossom. I love to craft, to spend time outside, to cook, and to eat. I even have a food and lifestyle blog here in town called The Hungry Dater, where we discuss how to thrive in this crazy world–one bite at a time.
I was one of the few newly-minted lawyers who knew exactly what I wanted to do. I knew that planning and administering estates was about more than just the law… It’s also about people, relationships, and loss. Because I am a people person who has a talent for helping people emotionally and legally, I knew estate law was my calling.
So many older traditional attorneys who practice in this area have become numb to the fact that our business begins with a loss or (sometimes even more difficult) the planning for a loss. These are all difficult subjects for most people to contemplate. Becoming the “stranger” in this community who people feel comfortable discussing these issues with takes skill in the law AND in people. After I worked at my firm for many years, I realized these were skills I possessed. They were also skills I found were mostly undervalued in traditional law.
Thus, LeGoy Law was born. I made the commitment to create a comfortable environment and an understanding demeanor where people planning for their own estates or administering the estates for their loved ones could find the solace of a trusted friend and advisor, in addition to the quality of assistance of a big firm attorney–for a reasonable cost! This combo was almost unheard of in the legal business; so I created it.
